We received the Thirsties Duo All in One Diaper in Mud. Thirsties is one of the first diapers and covers we owned almost three years ago when our cloth diaper journey began. However this is only the second of their amazing Duo AIO that we own and unfortunately Kaleb has outgrown it due to it being a size one. I was very excited to have the chance to review a size two. The tunnel design does make for a faster drying time. We line dry all our diapers and I find the DUO AIO is dry before our other AIO diapers, which is a bonus because they are hubby’s favorite because he doesn’t have to find inserts to stuff it. The aplix is nice and sturdy and holds well unlike some other aplix I have tried, the only downfall with it is that Kaleb is at the age that he can remove almost any aplix diaper, though this one does give him a run for the money. I prefer the fit however with an aplix because you can get more sizing options that snaps can’t (don’t take this wrong as I love both snaps and aplix for various reasons and it really is just a personal preference. This is another bonus with Thirsties products as they are available in both aplix and snaps).
The PUL exterior in not harsh and stiff like some, which is one of my loves as I have owned some diapers that had a very stiff feel to them. My only dislike is I wish Thirsties offered more print selections but that is just because like clothing I like having a variety of looks. The interior microfleece is very soft and even after line drying inside (which often leaves our diapers rough and stiff against the skin) it still came out soft. I had no issues putting the diaper on Kaleb after line drying and didn’t feel the need to fluff it up like some others. The triple layer microfiber terry soaker holds well while still allowing for the diaper to be trim unlike others.
The fit on the thighs is great without digging into to him. I feel his clothing is protected in this diaper without worries of a blow out. Often in a one size diaper I need to compromise with either a snug fit at the waist and a gap at the thighs or a lose fitting waist to achieve a snug fit on the thighs. I’ve also had to unsnap the rise to a large setting on some diapers to accommodate his thighs resulting the the diaper reaching his chest at times. I found that I did not have to do that at all with this diaper. I was able to get a nice fit on the rise, thigh and waist all very easy, which can often be hard since Kaleb is at the squirming stage and constantly rolling over during diaper changes.
As you can see to the left or right Kaleb is on the medium setting, the second set of rise snaps on the diaper. The aplix is also very close together which leaves a large amount of room to grow at the waist. Being 21lbs now and only half way outgrown the diaper I can easily see this diaper lasting us to potty training. While the suggested weight is 40lbs if you have a taller more slender toddler I can see this diaper fitting to perhaps 45-50lbs if they happen to train later or just grow faster. I was surprised at how laid back he was during this diaper change, which was a complete opposite of our normal diaper change routine. Often between adjusting snaps, rise snaps coming undone and him rolling onto his side at least three times it can take us sometimes upwards of 10 minutes to do something that shouldn’t take that long. With the Thirsties Duo AIO I found the rise snaps to fit into place without being to lose and coming undone as I try to adjust the diaper, hold a squirming baby and get a nice fit.
The colors are very vibrant. I have found that our DUO diaper we’ve had now for close to three years is still very vibrant. Being that the PUL on the Duo AIO is the same I can see the color remaining just as vibrant after numerous washing. The color and print selection is nice offering both gender specific and neutral options.
