Make learning silly with He’s All Boy Alpha Cards

This post is sponsored by He’s All Boy

allboy (1 of 2)I have to admit I was nervous about homeschooling.  Would I be able to teach them enough?  Would they pay attention?  My biggest concern was Khloe because she has trouble staying focused.  My main reason for homeschooling was wanting my children to have a more one on one education.  I remember there were many times I was bored in class because I already knew what we were studying, but had to keep going over it because others needing more time.  Everyone learns at their own pace and in some areas I was always ahead of the class.  I also wanted to make learning fun.  Sure some teachers are amazing and make it all kinds of fun to learn, but others act as if they just don’t want to be teaching.  When I saw the He’s All Boy Alpha Cards: ABC flash cards I was excited.  Sure I could go with the usual A is for Alligator, but isn’t A is for Alien and Accident much more fun?  Especially when the accident is a potty one!allboy (2 of 2)

About He’s All Boy Alpha Cards

  • 26 cards (4.25″x6″) to make you laugh out loud
  • Silly words and hilarious illustrations
  • Just the right amount of gross mixed with a ton of funny!
  • Sturdy box to keep the cards stored away on a book shelf
  • Made in the USA!!

allboy (6 of 9)Don’t let the name fool you, the Drama Queens are funny disgusting.  I often wonder if perhaps they were little boys in another life.  They think farting is too funny and if Kaleb leaks poop out the side of his diaper it’s a riot.  You would think our house is its own comedy club with everything they are always laughing at.  It only seemed right that funny alpha cards would fit in perfectly.

allboy (1 of 9)When they arrived they wanted to check them out right away.  When I first showed them they were a little disappointed because they thought they were regular flash cards.  When I began reading them with them they just could not stop laughing.  They were rolling around and giggling insanely.  They were a hit and still are.  I am excited to use them more as we continue our school year.

allboy (8 of 9)The graphics are beautiful.  The images are just too funny, there is nothing like a cartoon bear picking his nose or a farting fox.  Not only are they vibrant and colorful, but very cute.  I am so happy we’ve had the chance to check them out because I never would have known they existed.allboy (4 of 9)

Where to buy

You can purchase these flash cards for $11.95 as well as a matching game and vinyl placement directly from He’s All Boy.reviewpost

We’re a potato loving family

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for McCain Foods. I received a sample to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.

McCain Logomccain (1 of 11)Even before I became a mom I loved potatoes.  We always had them in some way, shape or form.  Holidays always included mashed potatoes, summer was potato salad and baked potatoes on the grill and of course fries, lots and lots of fries all the time. It came as no surprise that our kids love all things potatoes, they even try to eat them raw.  Like most kids their favorite are fries of any kind.  Our favorite brand is McCain potatoes and bought almost weekly.

mccain (2 of 11)mccain (1 of 1)Something about McCain potatoes just tastes better, perhaps it is the natural ingredients.  We’ve tried other brands and while sometimes they are more affordable at the time, they just are not as good.  I don’t find as large a selection with other brands either, especially when you just love the Smiles which are by far our favorite.  Oddly while shopping at my local store the Drama Queens decided they didn’t want them this time. I decided to pick up the Seasoned Crinkle Cut and Classic® Cut Fries, figuring we could have with steak one night and with chicken nuggets for lunch another day.  When I got home and was putting the groceries away I realized a bag went missing and found Kaleb walking around hugging them, unfortunately I didn’t get my camera fast enough to catch how cute he looked.

mccain (5 of 11)mccain (9 of 11)The Drama Queens would eat fries or potatoes of some kind every day if we let them.  I can’t keep the fries in the freezer for more than a day and anytime I am in there getting something for a meal they ask for them.  They even like the seasoned ones (though not as much as unseasoned) and with different dipping sauces.  Our favorite way to eat them is to bake them, put them all in a bowl and sit around the table with different sauces having them like a lunch time snack.  Kaylee just loves them with ranch dressing, while Keira prefers them plain and Khloe with just ketchup.

Whether we are having meatloaf or burgers potatoes have always made a great side, I think the Drama Queens would even eat them mixed with spaghetti.  Even alone as a snack in between meals they are great, especially if I think they didn’t eat enough at the meal I can sneak them some fries.  They think they’re a treat and I know their getting that extra veggie in them.  My next task is to turn some Steak Cut into cheddar, bacon fries for a nice fall snack or appetizer, I almost wish I had all the ingredients on hand because I might just make them now at 12am.mccain (4 of 11)

Enjoy food, family and football at Buffalo Wild Wings

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Buffalo Wild Wings for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

 photo BWW_GenBrandV2_Black_Retargeting_300x250_zps1e81f6aa.jpg

I am not a big football fan, but many of my family and friends are.  Often if there is a get together during football season I am looking for there to be something else for me to get distracted by between commercials.  Buffalo Wild Wings is great because they have food for everyone.  So while my family is enjoying their game I can sit back and relax, eat some food perhaps have a drink and then we can all chat during commercials.

Growing up football parties were huge at my aunt’s house.  Her family alternated weekends on who would be hosting.  Lots of great food and fun, but once it was all done then came the clean up when you just wanted to crawl into bed and sleep.  Buffalo Wild Wings would be a great place to host the weekly party.  We can all enjoy the food and drinks and once the game is over head home with no clean up.  They even offer kids meals which is awesome because it means even my picky little eaters will have something their size to enjoy.  The Drama Queens and Prince have yet to experience one of our family football parties and I bet would have a blast at their first party if we had it here.

Of course we all love promotions too!  Their current monthly promotion is Wing Tuesdays and Boneless Thursdays and the debut of their Game Changer Beer (made by Redhook and offered at Buffalo Wild Wings).  I don’t know about you, but I love boneless wings so keep a lookout for me at my local restaurant on Thursdays.  The Drama Queens and hubby might fight me on this one though because they prefer original wings.  Whichever day you decide to visit I am sure you will have a great time together enjoying food, drinks and maybe (just maybe) some football.

Copy-Kids getting children to eat their fruits and veggies

This post is sponsored by Copy-Kids

copy-kidslogoFor the most part the Drama Queens and Prince enjoy their fruits and veggies.  Most days it is not a major ordeal to get them to eat them.  There are a few that they can sometimes give us a hard time about eating like raw carrots or green beans.  Sure they say they want them, then we give them to them and end up finding them all over the house because they have tossed them aside.  Copy-Kids puts a new spin on getting your little ones to eat their fruits and veggies.  As we know most children like to copy and mimic not only adults, but other children as well.  I know I often see the Drama Queens copying children dancing or moving on T.V. so why should eating be do different?copykids (1 of 1)

About Copy-Kids

Copy-Kids was produced for children 6 months to 5 years old.  It features 12 chapters that are 7 minutes long and total running time is 115 minutes.  Each chapter shows children aged 9 months to 4 years old eating and enjoying a single fruit or vegetable.   The DVD also includes an on-camera discussion about healthy eating with renowned pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon, plus a section of outtakes.

Fruits and vegetables shown on the DVD;

  • bell pepper
  • bananas
  • oranges
  • carrots
  • strawberries
  • avocado
  • raspberries
  • tomatoes
  • apples
  • broccoli
  • cucumber
  • blueberries

Copy-Kids has won three children’s excellence awards:

  • One from Dr. Toy
  • One from MACT
  • One from Parent Tested, Parent Approved

They are also approved by the USDA and added to their Education and Training Materials Database for pre-school nutrition.

My Thoughts

copykids (8 of 8)copykids (6 of 8)As luck would have it we had some raw baby carrots on hand from our neighbor who kept bringing the kids lunches from the summer program because they were left over and going to go to waste. Every meal came with a fruit or veggie side and everything except the carrots were getting eaten.  I hate seeing food go to waste and these small bags, even all together were not enough to be worth steaming and using as a side (perhaps a total of 20 carrots) for dinner.  We popped in the Copy-Kids DVD, set them up with plates on the floor by the T.V. and waited.  I wasn’t expecting it to work.  Sure they love copying people and each other, but I really didn’t think it would get them to eat the carrots.  To my shock they sat there on the floor eating their carrots and even had to go and get the larger bag out of the fridge because they finished all the smaller bags.  Even Kaleb sat nicely with them eating them.

copykids (4 of 8)copykids (5 of 8)I thought the children in the DVD were super cute.  They really kept their attention, which for my children is a big task.  Anything we are doing we often have to grab their attention several times, they are just always all over the place and don’t focus for more than a few minutes at a time.  Any show or movie longer than thirty minutes and they lose interest.  It is so cute because they keep asking “can we watch the movie with the kids eating?”  I’, amazed that something as simple as other children eating fruits and veggies can entertain them so much and get them to eat even the raw carrots. Now if only I can get them to eat something other than chicken and pasta at meal time *hint, hint Copy-Kids* perhaps a meat video in the future!

Alternative banking with Card.com

This post is sponsored by Card.com

63048_229697370507916_1925187551_nFor years I had trouble getting a state ID. I lived at home, I had no way to prove who I was or where I lived that the registry would accept. I was stuck. I couldn’t open a bank account because I didn’t have a state ID. I was forced to have my mother cash my check each week and had to carry around all that cash. When it came to paying bills I had to give her the cash and she would write me a check. It was a pain and I hated it. I didn’t like having someone else manage my money. If only I had found something like Card.com.

carddotcom (1 of 2)If Card.com had existed back when I was having my problems I could have easily signed up online with my social security number and would have been ready to go. It is that easy an application process and you’re 100% approved (there is no credit check). It is not a gift card or prepaid, but an alternative to banking (branchless-banking). Like your typical debit/credit card you can use it at ATMs (there is free access at over 22,000 machines), offers direct deposit, free activation, free reloading and a $5.95/month fee (which is waived if you load at least $800 in the previous 30 days with direct deposit). It is easy to setup direct deposit too, the form comes with your card or you can contact them if you need another form. If you can’t do direct deposit there are a bunch of reload locations you can find on their site, as well as other ways to load money onto it.  They even offer Bill Pay (for free too) and no overdraft fees because you can only spend what you have.

carddotcom (2 of 2)Using it is easy too. Whether shopping, out to dinner or paying a bill you can use it as long as Visa is accepted. You can also use it like you would your debit card at places that allow you to purchase as debit. It even offers Visa Zero Liability Protection and 100% FDIC insurance. And it’s FASHIONABLE! They have over 500 card designs to pick from, I went with the super cute unicorn design, because I love purple and fantasy creatures.

I highly suggest Card.com if you have credit problems and/or can’t get approved for a typical bank account. It it also nice if you are looking for an alternative banking option or a way to limit your spending (i.e. load so much onto this card and deposit the rest into your savings) by only using what you put onto your card. Once I get my business up and running it is going to be used as my personal spending account so I can separate out my profit from my business expenses.

You can find Card.com on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and their blog.

This is a sponsored post. I am a Shop Your Way blogger, though all opinions are my own.Personal Shopper ImageEver since I began shopping online I very rarely shop in store.  I hate taking the kids out if I don’t have to.  It is a pain to chase after them in the store and never mind trying to Christmas shop if I don’t have someone to watch them.  Now what if you also work full time?  I know when I worked full time the last thing I wanted to do was get off work and have to head out for hours of shopping or sit on the computer once the kids were a sleep shopping around for the best deals.  We all know we want the best deals.  Do you ever wish you had a personal shopper?  With Shop Your Way Concierge Personal Shopper program you can easily get one.

Simply sign-up and let me shop for you.  You can look through catalogs I have setup (promise I am working on some more) or let me know what you like and I can search around for you and setup a customized catalog/s just for you.  Best of all when you shop you earn 10 points on every dollar spent on qualifying purchases at Sears, Lands’ End, Kmart and mygofer.com and 1000 points equals $1.  Even better, there is no minimum to redeem your points either, you can simply use them with your next purchase.

Falling into Fitted Diapers Sponsor Spotlight: Red Barn Nifty Nappy

This post is sponsored by Red Barn Cloth Diapers

A little about Red Barn230442_171893069535794_4553892_n

Red Barn Cloth Diapers got their name because the owner Jeni actually lives in a red barn!  You can find Red Barn Cloth Diaper on Facebook as well as her online store front.nifty-nappy-tag

We are excited to be able to bring you Nifty Nappy Cloth Diapers. We are an Official Licensee for the Nifty Nappy Cottage License.  Here at the Red Barn we learned to sew cloth diapers from Vilate herself. That is why we feel confident in giving you the same quality of Nifty Nappy’s that were accessible through her retailers. We are also excited to announce that we have hand picked a few of Nifty Nappy retailers to help us sell the Red Barn Nifty Nappy’s!

About the diaper

redbarn (1 of 3)

  • One-size (7-35lbs)
  • Cross over waist snaps
  • Fitted
  • Cotton knit outer
  • Hidden organic hemp fleece
  • Microfleece inner
  • Lay in insert organic hemp fleece
 and organic bamboo velour
  • Snap closure

My Thoughtsredbarn (2 of 3)

redbarn (2 of 10)redbarn (1 of 10)I love organic bamboo velour.  I’ve said it many times in the past that it is one of my favorite diaper materials as well as Kaleb’s.  It would be only fitting that we would love Red Barn Nifty Nappy fitted diapers with it’s OBF and OBV fold over insert.  I’ve been cloth diapering full time now for 3.5 years and have not owned an Ooga Booga, so I was excited to receive a one in the camo color scheme.  When it arrive Kaleb stole it instantly and began calling the little Ooga “monsts” (monsters) which was so cute.  I had to fight with him to get the diaper to grab some pictures and when I asked if he wanted to put it on he laid down without a problem and began posing like mommy’s good little model.  I was so upset when Vilate closed up shop and had not had a chance to purchase a Nifty Nappy and almost jumped for joy when I heard Red Barn had become and Official Licensee for the Nifty Nappy Cottage License.  Now my chance to try one was still alive!redbarn (6 of 10)redbarn (9 of 10)redbarn (8 of 10)The Nifty Nappy fitted has a cotton knit exterior and Red Barn offers some gorgeous prints as well as solid colors.  You’ll be sure to find something you like and I almost wish I still had a little girl in cloth because some of the more girlie prints are adorable, but I am loving them all.  Next there is a hidden layer of organic hemp fleece and followed by a super soft microfleece inner.  The insert folds in half and is one side organic hemp fleece and one side organic bamboo velour.  The OBV side is what you want touching your little one’s skin because it is just so soft, though I am sure if you would prefer you could have the OHF on the outside.  Unlike some diapers the snaps on this are through all the layers of fabric so that you don’t have to worry about snaps pulling.  I often see fitted diapers that have snaps only through the hidden layer and exterior and have had a full snaps pull away and get lost, but that is not the case with the Nifty Nappy fitted.

redbarn (3 of 3)redbarn (4 of 10)I was a little worried about the sizing with this diaper.  Kaleb has some very chubby thighs and I was afraid that even though it is a one-size diaper it wouldn’t fit well.  What I have seen unique (well at least to me) with this diaper is that there is no snap, fold over or elastic adjustment for the rise.  They just have a a really stretchy hidden elastic in the leg.  I kept thinking no way is this going to fit him, he is our little moose, but it did and it fit nicely!  I was actually quite happy with the fit at his thighs.  The hidden elastic didn’t cut into him and leave marks and it wasn’t too loose.  It was a comfortable, yet snug fit and he didn’t once pull at the legs.  It also still had a lot of stretch left to it if his thighs are to get larger as he gets older.

redbarn (3 of 10)redbarn (5 of 10)redbarn (10 of 10)The waist features cross over snaps and I was surprised that despite his chubby status he was crossing over on one snap.  This was great to me because it meant he still had quite a while to wear the diaper.  Whether he decides to potty train this year or next year I can easily see him wearing this diaper until that day comes.  I was a little thrown by the placement of the diaper because I am so used to pulling them up to his belly button or above, but these are designed to go below the belly.  This design leaves for a nice trim and sagless (is that a word? If not it should be) bottom on the diaper.  Even with a cover I still found he fit into his pants better than some other diapers.

Where to buy

You can purchase the Nifty Nappy fitted directly from Red Barn Cloth Diapers for $23.50 in a variety of prints and colors.
