Switch to Cloth Sponsor Spotlight: Glow Bug Cloth Diapers Review

A little about Glow Bug Cloth Diapers

Glow Bug Cloth Diapers was founded by Sarah Downey and Neta Talmor.  The pair met at a pre-natal yoga class and became close friends during their pregnancies.  Their children were born weeks apart in 2007.  In 2010 after both having another child they looked at new cloth diapers and had concerns with the brands they have seen.  They wanted good quality, affordable cloth diapers, but couldn’t find one so they started their own company!

About the diaper

  • One-size diaper (7-35lbs)
  • Pocket diaper
  • PUL outer
  • PUL Insert Stopper
  • SlimDry™ inner
  • Double snap closure
  • Hip snaps to prevent wing droop
  • Double Gusset
  • Front and back pocket openings
  • Snap-down rise with 3 settings (4 sizes)
  • Microfiber insert that snap to each other and the diaper

My Thoughts

We received this adorable paw print diaper on a nice vivid orange.  I had read a little about Glow Bug Diapers, but wasn’t aware of some features which were apparent right away.  I saw a snap on the insert, but didn’t know why it was there until I went to stuff the pocket and realize there was a snap inside to attach it to the diaper.  I love this!  I don’t know how many times while trying to adjust a one-size diaper and the insert bunches or moves all while trying to change a squirming baby can be frustrating.  The insert snap has a male and female snap on it.  Using the male snap you can attach it to the diaper and if you want to double stuff your diaper an additional insert can be attached to the female snap.  Keeping both inserts in place, which can be a task when you have more than one in there and they are not attached.  I am constantly trying two inserts when one will slide down and another will move off to the side, so this is a really great feature in the diaper.

Next I noticed that there is an opening in both the back and front of the diaper.  This design is amazing idea because there is often times when I find the back of the diaper saturated in poop right by the opening and end up getting poop all over my hands.  With the double openings I can easily reach my hand up from the front to the back and unsnap the insert for an easy and clean removal.  Both openings also feature a PUL insert stopper to help keep the front and back of the diaper (and clothing touching it) from being saturated by pee.  The openings are nice and large allowing enough space for not only your hand to fit, but double inserts.  It is even large enough to accommodate a larger hand and arm like my hubby.  The larger opening also makes removing the insert or inserts that much easier when dealing with a dirty diaper.

The leg opening features a double gusset, which I really love in a diaper.  I love that it gives a nice snug fit both inside and outside the diaper while contain messed that might otherwise wind up on the outside.  The elastic is nice and tight and makes for a great fit (even on Kaleb’s thighs that are getting chunkier by the day) all while not being too tight it leaves a mark.

Kaleb is on the second row of snaps (picture to the right) which leaves two more sizes for him to grow into.  Currently (at his appointment back in December) he was 19lbs and 25″ long, so I can easily see him fitting into this diaper until at least the suggested 35lb weight on the largest setting, but possibly even larger than that.  On the waist snaps as you can see (picture to the right) he is snapped to almost the middle leaving a lot of growing room on the waist for him as well.  Featuring the cross over snap is an added bonus when using it with newborns or smaller babies as well as skinny babies allowing for a tighter fit at the waist.  He appears to be built like Kaylee which leads me to believe that he will easily fit into this diaper until potty training, which is great when you are not only cloth diapering for the cuteness and to be greener, but also to save money.
The prints are gorgeous!  I have seen many adorable and unique prints that you don’t see being over used by other brands.  I especially like that the boy package includes diapers that are very boyish, which sometimes isn’t the case.  I am not against a boy wearing “girlie” diapers or a girl wearing “boyish” diapers, but when you purchase a gender specific item you expect something for a boy and not something that might still be a little on the feminine side.  I think the girl prints are adorable as well and it makes me still wish I had a girl in diapers to purchase a pack for.

Where to buy and cost

You can purchase Glow Bug Cloth Diapers on their website.  They offer a boy package and a girl package with 12 diapers and 18 inserts for $150, as well as the Glow Bug Spectrum (Gender Neutral) packages with 12 diapers and 18 inserts for $150 or 6 pack with 8 inserts for $75.  All the diapers are packaged inside a free wet bag!  This makes for not only a happy baby, but a happy mom too!

Stayed tuned and return on February 14th for your chance to win a 4 pack of Glow Bug Cloth Diapers as well as other great diapers and cloth diapering accessories in the Switch to Cloth giveaway event.

I, too, really like GloBugs. I bought a number of different types second-hand to see what I liked best. Little one is now just big enough to fit into his cloth, so I brought out the stash last week. The globugs are my favourite thusfar.
